There's a River

There's a river running deep down in the canyon
There's a river running deep and running wild
There's a river running deep down in the canyon
And she carried me along two hundred miles

She stretches out sometimes so calm and peaceful
Then she'll change her mind 'cause she's a lady and she's allowed
She'll have you grabbing for a rope
She's in your face and down your throat
You come back up half drowned but feelin' alive

There's a river running deep down in the canyon
There's a river running deep and running wild
There's a river running deep down in the canyon
And she carried me along two hundred miles

The canyon rim rises up like God's own castle
I swear sometimes those peaks touch the clouds
The rocks are painted red and green,
Black and brown and in between
The big horn sheep dance under clear blue skies

There's a river, hey hey, hey ah
There's a river, hey hey, hey ah
There's a river, hey hey, hey ah
Running deep, running free, running wild

At night her lullaby makes sleeping peaceful
In the day her song washes all my cares away
So, guide your boat into the "V"
And let her current set you free
The world might pass you by but you won't mind

There's a river running deep down in the canyon
There's a river running deep and running wild
There's a river running deep down in the canyon
And she carried me along
She gave me this song
I'm headed back her way someday somehow
There's a river
